Make Your Own Perfume
I found these beautiful perfume bottles at World Market.
In order to make a successful blend it is worth considering facts such as the ratio of top note, middle note and base note. It is also important to consider the different fragrance families and their characteristics, and what aroma intensity the oil has.
Each essential oil is classified as a top, middle, or base note. To make it even more confusing each oil also contains a top, middle, and base note which refers to its varying aroma as it evaporates. Most of the essential oils contains all three notes while others are primarily just one. When you blend the oils you want to make sure it holds it's fragrance as long as possible so it is important not to blend only top notes. You need to have oils with fixative qualities that will lengthen the lasting quality of the aroma.
Here is a quick blending guide line:
Top notes: 3 drops
Middle notes: 2 drops
Base notes: 1 drop
The top notes are the most pungent and volatile. They act quickly and disappear quickly, and their first impression only lasts for about 30 minutes. They stimulate and uplift.
The middle notes are more stable. Their scent unfolds anywhere from one hour to three hours after application. They soothe and balance the body, and they round out a blend with softer tones.
Base notes are the least volatile and may be used as fixatives in a blend, holding in the fragrance longer than a blend without a base note. They are heavier and thicker than other oils, and are generally relaxing. Base notes are deep, warm, sensuous, and often sweet-smelling.
