Getting the Children Involved - Homemade Perfume

My daughter and I love to make our own perfume. I found lovely perfume bottles at World Market, but you can try antique stores for exquisite finds.

The uniqueness of using pure essential oils as a perfume is the benefit of their healing properties. For example, if you tire in the afternoon, you can make a more stimulant blend. If you need to calm down, try making a relaxing blend. During flu season you can add more antiseptic oils to the blend.

Paola made a blend of lavender, frankincense, and lemon essential oils for special gift. Lavender is a soothing, refreshing, and balancing aroma with powerful healing properties. Lemon is highly antibacterial and able to stimulate the action of white blood cells. It is also refreshing and uplifting. Frankincense is stimulating and elevating to the mind. Traditionally used for respiratory disorders.

In order to make a successful perfume blend, considering facts such as the ratio of top note, middle note, and base note is relevant. It is also important to consider the different fragrance families and their characteristics as well as aroma intensity. You want to make sure that the blend holds the aroma as long as possible. Blending techniques and tips can be found here.

We begin by putting 3 ounces of almond oil to a measuring cup. Add 18 drops of lemon, 12 drops of lavender, and 6 drops of frankincense. We will use a carrier oil with less aroma next time, grape seed oil is good option.

We used a fairly large perfume bottle, so we needed more base oil and essential oils. However, you can make a smaller amount.

I often make a smaller blend and add to a roll-on bottle. Roll-on bottles are extremely suitable for on the go, last minute touch ups.

Paola made sure that the oils were mixed.

She also added the mixture to our beautiful perfume bottle

This is a very beautiful and functional gift. Choose a recipe that suits the person best, or make your own blend using these blending techniques.

Before you leave:

I recommend that you always perform a skin patch test when you try a new oil.

Check out my safety page to make sure you are aware of any contrindications before you use essential oils. Some oils are not suitable when suffering from certain conditions. Also, Read this Before You Start Using Essential oils. Some oils should not be applied prior to sun exposure so make sure you check this list before spending time in the sun.
