Essential Oils for Skin Care - Dry Skin

When the skin is dry the surface oils that are responsible for a normal skin’s smooth, velvety feel are lacking.  The skin needs to be kept supple since it can develop wrinkles and lines at an early age.

Dry skin tends to be:
  • dull
  • often flaky and chapped
  • dry and coarse to touch
  • prone to broken capillaries
  • dehydrated

Essential oils like jasmine, rose, neroli and German Chamomile are recommended by Battaglia since dry skin very often is delicate and sensitive. He also says  oils like geranium, palmarosa, sandalwood, and lavender that have a balancing effect on the sebum production may also be used as well.

According to Battaglia, avocado, sweet almond, jojoba, apricot kernel, wheatgerm, evening primrose oil and infused carrot seed oils are base oils may be used for dry skin.

Make your own ointments, creams, facial gels, and toners using the essential oils and base oils mentioned above.
