Herbs and Essential Oils that I Keep in My First Aid Kit

4:33 PM Posted by Jo Pedranti

I use natural remedies and I can't just run to the nearest store and pick up what I need. Therefore, I make sure I have a natural first aid kit at home. The last few years we have lived in the country where it is quite a distance to the doctor or hospital. I also have to consider snakes, poisonous spiders and scorpions that we might run into. It is getting into the season where we start seeing scorpions inside or around the house. Here is a guide to what kind of things you might need in order to put together your own natural first aid kit.

It is very useful and important remedy for treating shock and stimulate circulation in healing. It has historically been used to stop bleeding due to its styptic and vulnerary properties. It is  useful for colds. It also has an analgesic property.

Lobelia has antispasmodic property that relaxes muscle spasms or cramps. Its antispasmodic property has historically made  lobelia useful for pain, relieve tension during anxiety attacks, relieve tension head aches, and  provide relief for asthma.

Ultimate Echinacea is a liquid that can be used by children. Immune Stimulator can be used by older children and adults. Both remedies are immune stimulants and are good to keep in the house in case of illness, infections or when something is going around. Echinacea is also a blood purifier

Silver Shield is a natural antiseptic and it is a must for the first aid kit. I always keep a couple of bottles at home. Silver Shield has shown to kill every microbe it's been tested for. You can apply the liquid topically or take it internally. A throat or sinus spray can also be made of Silver Shield. The gel is a convenient way of using silver Shield, and it can safely be applied to wounds.

A very good thing to have in your home in case of poisoning. It doesn't go bad so it can be kept forever. If my children get bit by a spider I will make a paste of the charcoal and apply to the bite to absorb the toxins.

Is a flower essence modified from the original Dr. Bach's Rescue Remedy. It contains all the flowers as in the original Bach Rescue Remedy, but it has several others that promote tissue healing. Comfrey, arnica and calendula have been added. Just as the original Rescue Remedy, Distress Remedy is useful in shock and emotional stress. According to Steven Horne, it can be applied topically to speed the healing of minor injuries. I like to 15-20 drops to a spray bottle of water if the injury covers a larger area. I shake it many times to make sure it is blended well enough.

This is a great remedy for clearing mucus from the lungs and the sinuses. So, if you often have a cold or respiratory congestion, this is a good remedy to keep in your kit. Horne suggests this is a remedy that is useful for coughs, earaches, allergies, colds and digestive upsets.

Aloe Vera Gel is a must in our home. It comes in handy many times, it is useful for sunburn, skin irritations and burns. I mix it with lavender, tea tree and/or peppermint for various summer problems.

With a teenage football player in the house I make sure I have something that is anti-inflammatory and pain relieving. You just never know when it is needed. I use IF Relief for promoting recovery from minor injuries, ease headaches and other various aches and pains.

I use this as an topical spray to ease pain and to promote healing of minor injuries. My son used to sprain his ankle a lot when he was younger, and I sprayed it on the injured area before I applied essential oils. It is also good to keep at home for odors and stains.

I keep many other things at home as well. I make sure we are prepared in case something comes up. My blog post No Flu for Us  shares  how we successfully deal with a cold or flu in our house. Since we adapted these ideas we haven't had a cold. If you have scorpions in your area you might want to check out how I deal with a scorpion sting.

This is REALLY good to now. I love natural remedies. I'll try to see if I can find these essential oils at my local health food store.
